What a difference a few months in a global pandemic make, eh? We’ve all changed our lives to some extent. We’ve learned to properly wash our hands, minimally touch surfaces (hello, switching on lights with forearms), stay six feet or more away from each other and wear a mask when we can’t, shop for groceries online, order takeout from our favorite places, wipe down our steering wheels, handles, shifters, and consoles regularly (if we’re even driving), and pull off the impossible of working from home while homeschooling our kids.
You, and particularly you parents, are phenoms. Seriously, give yourselves a pat on the back.
The other thing that has happened while sheltering in place is realizing that your lovely abode doesn’t quite cut the mustard. Sure, it’s fine when the fam is really only there for maybe twelve hours a day. Even during those hours, six to ten are spent sleeping, showering, and getting ready for bed or for the day. The rest of the time is spent cooking, eating, and maybe catching up on Netflix for an hour or two. I can think of several things that might not be perfect on a regular day-to-day basis, but they are probably crystal clear to you at this point.
Look familiar?
Being in your home 24 hours a day for months on end has taught us that our current kitchen can’t really be all things to all people with everything that must be done. A girlfriend and I were recently checking in on one another and she confided in me that her kitchen really needed an upgrade. They moved in about a year ago and they had planned on upgrading the kitchen at some point, but never this soon. Well, by now, she has had “had it” with the heavy upper cabinets cutting the kitchen off at the peninsula, wants more seating and lighting, lighter cabinets, and a durable quartz or quartzite countertop.
Shameless plug: we ended up recording a virtual consultation on Instagram Live which has also been uploaded to my IGTV channel on Instagram (@lushinteriordesignllc). I highly recommend you check it out. I had never been to her home before this, so it was my first time seeing her kitchen, same as you. I held a discovery call with her prior to the meeting, like we do with all our potential clients, so I had some basic information, but it really came together as she showed me around on video. I was able to give her plenty of ideas to implement on her own or use to begin working with us as a client.

Yep, that’s what we’re doing these days”virtual consultations and virtual site visits for our projects under construction, and it’s working out splendidly.
When I started at my first interior design position after college, I was on the retail design team for a company called Quiksilver, along with DC Shoes and Roxy. Most of our site locations were out of state (and many out of the country). This necessitated a lot of virtual communication, which we had mastered. That said, we are perfectly suited for this potential “new normal,” because it has been a typical process for hundreds of my projects right from the start.
Virtual consultations from the comfort of your home
We’ve noticed a bit of “Zoom-fatigue” recently, with so many online meetings with colleagues and happy hours with friends. People don’t want to spend too much time on video. We found that we can really get a lot done virtually in an hour or less so that we can plan and move onto the next steps with you. If you’ve thought about hiring a designer, but were a little unsure, now is a fantastic time for us to meet virtually and see your space. We have a lot of resources about hiring a designer here for you. And of course if you want to DIY it, we offer a leg up with online design or with our virtual consultations. There’s no limit to the amount of time you purchase if you want a constant guide to help you with your project. If you are ready to schedule a discovery call for your consultation, contact us here. We can’t wait to help you create the home of your dreams!
We hope you like what you read and will share it with someone who might find it valuable.
