When Pantone announced their new color of the year, I became nostalgic for my childhood days of wearing pinks, gray, turquoise, and of course, varying tones of purple. I had full outfits in only purple, white, and pink. Even my mother reports my refusal to wear anything on the opposite side of the color wheel, starting at the ripe age of a year-and-a-half!
What a beautiful and intriguing color Pantone selected for the 2018 Color of the Year! Inspiring connection in this era of imaginative progress, this color is historically rooted in counterculture and mysticism. Pushing boundaries, creative expansion, and provocation are communicated through this almost other-worldly color. Years ago, Prince and Jimi Hendrix made use of the color as part of their individual self expression, so it’s not too surprising that it’s appearing again.
Do I think this color will be or needs to be everywhere this year? Nope! I think it will appear in accents and accessories and in larger areas for those that are bold. The deeper shade of this color is grounding and can be somewhat neutral, whereas the most pale hue goes much more feminine. We’ve pulled together some pieces as inspiration for your own space, as well as some personal accessories for on the go. Let us know down in the comments if you like this color and if you think it will shoot up in popularity and trend this year. We’d love to know what you think!
