Hiring an interior designer if you never have before can feel daunting, but my hope is that I can help clarify things for you. You may be asking yourself, “Do I even need to hire a designer if I can make decisions?” or “I know I need a contractor to build what I want; maybe he can work through the design with me,” or “Where do I even start?” or “I’m not sure I need your level of assistance,” or something else. The answers to all of this is “it depends.” Your decision to hire a professional to lead the process or not is totally up to you. Let’s go through some questions that will help you make that decision.

You might call looking for help with a specific room, like a complete overhaul of their kitchen, or a specific problem, such as not enough lighting options in the family room, or how to create more storage while improving a space. While a super detailed list is quite helpful, it isn’t required. When we meet during the consultation, I take down a lot of information and ask a lot of questions you may not have thought of yet. Knowing what your end goals and wants are for practicality and for how you live is important for us to know before we start sketching a single line.

Hiring an interior designer isn’t cheap, but it’s often less expensive than making space plan, lighting design, ceiling detail, trim, plumbing, finish, or furniture mistakes. Hiring a designer is an investment. Interior Designers also save you time since you’re hiring us to do the work for you. At Lush Interior Design, we understand how busy you are. We like to say, we take care of it so you can continue living your life (with as little interruptions as possible). Not only will we make plan layout recommendations, but we will also cull the myriad options out there down to your best option. We also have done this for a long time. We’ve designed and been a part of hundreds of thousands of square feet of projects, so we are well versed in how the design process works. Additionally, since we’ve used many of the same contractors and vendors over the years, we know how to best work with them and them with us, streamlining the process.
Many of my busy full-service clients run businesses of their own, sit in the C-suite, are in the legal field, or have been in the military, so delegation is part of the job, and they understand that time is money. In full-service design, we take care of as much as possible to save you time so you can continue working, spending time with your kids, and traveling without worrying about whether the contractor picked up the correct cabinet pulls you wanted. Through the design process, every decision builds on the last and you are a part of those decisions at specified points. It’s not uncommon for clients to hire us for more projects within their home or to hire us for a second home because we’ve built trust with them on the first project.

If you’re just looking for ideas, and you are in the Northern Virginia/Washington, D.C. area, hire us to come out for an Essential Consultation. If you want us to come up with ideas and you are happy to execute the project on your own, you might want to hire us for E-design services or if you want continued guidance, book us for a couple of Virtual Consultations to get started and keep the momentum going, or to help you where you may feel stuck.
Hiring an interior designer is for your if you’re happy to let someone else take the wheel to get you to your destination. If you’re not sure hiring an Interior Designer would be the right fit, let’s talk about it. I’m happy to answer any questions you have and to share more about the design process and how we work with clients.
If you’re ready to create a home that ticks all the boxes on your goals, reach out to us. We can’t wait to hear about your project. Contact us today for a stunning home tomorrow.
